Cape Town has a lovely, Mediterranean-type climate for much of the time. Peak season is during the summer months, November through March. Unlike much of the rest of the South Africa, during this time,of year, the Western Cape weather is typically warm and dry. But there can be days of strong wind from the Southeast, particularly in February. Temperatures average 26°C, and can readily breach 30°C in the afternoon. Summer lows are generally around 12°C.

Winter is distinct, spanning May through August, though the turning point from summer generally starts about April. These months can be characterized by wet, windy weather spanning days at a time, coming in from the Northwest. Amidst these gale-force bursts, some of Cape Town's best "fair weather" days are in the winter seasons. Daytime temperatures typically hovering between 16 and 20°C on sunny days. Night-time temperatures average around 7°C, though can dip to near zero on occasion.
